You bring up a good point with gameplay. What do you guys want to see again? DW3/4/5 gameplay or the renbu from DW6? I can go either way, personally, as long as there's no freaking clones.

I would like to see Gan Ning with a BFS again (those kunoichi blades are too freaking girly--they're not short swords, they're KNIVES) Sun Ce with tonfa and Ling Tong with nunchaku again; mostly because the latter two had unique weapons. Clone weapons are boring as hell.

I like the targets and the bases from DW6. The power/speed character designs in WO was also fun (except technique, technique kind of sucked).

As long as the infamous long-living lag goes down hard in DW7, I'll be okay with whatever they end up doing, gameplay wise.

Jenizaki,

I would consider character weapons more of a choice in design then a game play factor. That said I agree with you on the Wu characters. I mean come on, Sun Ce is not Sun Ce without his tonfas. I would add Sima Yi to that list. The claw things he had in DW6 were unique but just awful. Give him back the fan. Zhuge Liang may have a fan as well, but their move-sets were different enough in DW5.

Oh, that's right.

Considering the re-desings of the characters.

I'd like them to be less bland.

I'm seeing it now with SW3 and only then realized that it is close to what happened in DW6. Many costumes are simplyfied and have close to no patterns. I want that trend to stop.

If the costumes get to simple, I see no reason to import the Artbooks anymore. Seriously, they aren't worth it.

So far I only imported the SW Artbooks, but I have plans to possibly buy the WO2 Artbook and the DW 4 & 5 ones...
But if the grafiks/designs lack more and more... Not only is MY eye candy gone, but also they'll at least loose me as customer of artbooks.

Cao Ren, Huang Zhong, and the WO2 Win Button of Overpowered -Ex Charge Spam beg to differ. :P Ren's WO stomp bouncing assclownery was ridiculous fun. But anyway...

DW6 does have awesome battlefield immersion. The bases feel integrated rather than slapped in there. You have to work to besiege a castle rather than finding one guy with Defense Captain over his head. There are hordes of coordinated peons with different tasks - carrying banners, throwing rocks, shooting arrows, beating you with clubs. Your dudes throw down and cheer when you kick some ass. The terrain can be a pain outside of DW6:E with its magic jumping superpowers, but it does make the land seem more realistic. I hope this is only the beginning for future DW series battles that maintain the army-of-one appeal while coming off as a closer and closer representation of actual warfare.

I agree with the concept of a kingdom musou mode done well. By that, I mean it should give you good reasons to play with a variety of characters. Different people could get special interactions, scenes, and branching stage paths. Battles could also play out differently depending on who you picked. For instance, the Yellow Turban Rebellion would basically have each allied faction starting off on their own piece of a huge map. This would also provide better immersion by giving the battles an epic feel. Some shorter battles should still be included for practice, leveling up, and stress relief, but the big bang campaigns should feel like such rather than running around on a game board.

This sort of arrangement would improve the storytelling by allowing Koei to stick to the overall events with much more nuance and realism in the characters' dialog. Rewatching a bunch of the DW6 narratives reminded me of why the storytelling fell flat to me despite Koei's attempt to make it more individually tailored. Some characters just have more potential for an interesting individual story than others, and those others' stories felt samey throughout. (Blah blah Cao Pi is ambitious yeah yeah I got the memo with my TPS report.) Much of the CG dialog felt stilted and unnatural because it had to make its points obvious in a short span of time. The bulk of the storytelling should be done with that typical DW5/WO/WO2 combination of portraits, natural-sounding text, and voice, which can efficiently convey a great deal of nuance and bring the characters to life. Cut scenes should be carefully selected and scripted in order to enhance the story rather than chuck it into Corny Country. If characters can have a succinct, realistic, illuminating conversation - awesome! But no after-school special epiphanies about Learning Something Important in two lines of dialog, please.

It's funny. Even though the older games had their doofy dialog missteps, the characters came off as more realistic overall. DW6 took a huge step forward with battlefield immersion and felt the need to flatten, fix, and hollow out a whole bunch of characterization that wasn't broke to begin with. Must not NERD RAEG over Sun Shang Xiang.

Since Kaihime is in SW3, I'm guessing that they're going to make another girl in DW. I request a girl in Wei.

I reall want Cao Ang, Hua Tuo, Li Dian, Zhuge Jin or Lu Su, and Liu Chan to be in the game!!!!!!!

I had it with Zhao Yun as main character in the openings. It's sickened me to death. (Don't hurt me!) It's time for them to change a character. Who is not Lu Bu.

Prove me if I'm wrong, but Jiang Wei, and Lu Xun has been out ever since DW2 up until now, (Well, Jiang Wei's not in DW6, but he's in WO3, so I think that's count) but they have NEVER been in any openings at all. And maybe Xiahou Yuan too.

Lu Xun wasn't in DW4's?

I think Jiang Wei and Lu Xun and several other characters aren't badass enough to be main asskicker characters. Zhao Yun is an asskicker. Lu Bu is an asskicker. But there's asskickers from the other kingdoms too.

(I can't really complain, Sun Ce's been in DW4 and DW5's, Gan Ning was in DW4:E and the DW5:XL which was primarily Ling Tong, so all /my/ boys are covered...)

(Well, lucky you!)

Yue Ying wasn't an asskicker and she's in DW4: Empires! Xing Cai was in only one game and she's in it!!!
In DW5:E, I was all pissed at the OP. Why can't it be Xiahou Dun instead of Zhang Liao?
(I don't remember Zhen Ji's in any.....is she in DW3 OP? What about Zhang He? And Ma Chao??)

Well, I think it's time for them to have new characters in the OP.

Yue Ying's not an asskicker? Dunno what game you play but that seems to be the hype built around her in DW4/DW5. Xing Cai was the new girl, of course she was going to be in the intro, just like Cao Pi. Folks are usually more interested in the new characters.

*And so, after reading this thread, the Koei game designers got working on DW7, and, being the buttmunches they are, did everything against the wishes of the posts here except for this one. In the meantime, more lolis and shotas were introduced into the cast, until eventually all the cast members were either loli or shota... and naked*

Actually that gets me thinking; why in the name of Lucifer does Koei always feel the need to update the characters' appearances anyway?

Some games, I'll admit, can at least get away with it (Soul Calibur) but other games like Tekken (with the exception of Yoshimitsu) and hell, even BASARA, still manage to attract people's attention without having to give the character a wardrobe malfunction for every new release. If anything, it's more like a wardrobe enhancement with all the customizations they allow (one of the reasons Soul Calibur's characters can be as ADD or indecisive with their choice of clothing because we get to change theirs if we question it.) That, by far, is a much better option than Koei continuously being all like "hello, boorish sheep who worship us like Gods *i.e. KoeiWarriors fandom* We're gonna introduce to you some new freak designs of your beloved characters, you'll bitch about it, but otherwise there ain't shit you can do about it! Buahahahahaha!"

Also the characters' appearances in DW2/3 and 4 were definitely the best ones. That is a fact. You're possible argument against this statement is null and void.

I agree kinda, who the hell cares what they look like? Soul Calibur characters have looked the same, physically, for eveyr game in the series. Their outfits change and their physique changes but that's it. No face transformations, no hair color, nothing. There's a 2p that is always differnet but it's usually just a different outfit and a different hair color/style. None of this palate swap bull.
